SECRET GARDEN

The Secret Garden Room

Mary has the key… The very first room at the top of the grand painted staircase, The Secret Garden Room is in its own world. Tucked into a little portico of its own, with a glorious bowed window seat, a fireplace (with electric fire) flanked by beautiful bevel-mirrored twin closets, and historic frescos on the walls. Frances Hodson Burnett, author of the famous 19th Century children’s book, The Secret Garden, watches over the room from the mantel and Colin’s wheelchair is tucked into the corner after he learned to run.

  • A remote controlled electric fire
  • Shared bath down the hall
SCHEHERAZADE

The Scheherazade Room

1,001 stories to tell… A Victorian fantasy of the Near East, the Scheherazade Room invites 1,001 stories. Antique oriental carpets hang like a tent over the bed and wrap a generous pile of throw pillows, a genii awaits the polishing of his lamp, and Celeste the Camel welcomes all comers from the corner. With superb Moroccan light fixtures, antique armoire and vanity, and a basket that may have once belonged to a snake tamer.

  • King-sized bed with down comforter and pillow top mattress
  • The largest of our rooms
  • Shared bath down the hall
  • Can be used en suite with the Lotus Room
LOTUS

The Lotus Room

Zen found, drenched in sunlight… A nod to the Victorian fascination with the Far East, the Lotus Room is a serene melding of antiques and art from across Asia. With a metal four-poster bed adorned with red fabric, superb antique Chinese tables and trunks, and a gorgeous silk-upholstered settee that is the perfect reading spot. This room is a perennial favorite.

CAMELOT

The Camelot Room

A medieval romance… A lovely jewel box of a room, draped in Pre-Raphaelite tapestries, with knights both large and small standing guard over your dreams. This is the Camelot Room, with an antique walnut bed made for royalty, delightfully whimsical light fixtures, a Victorian marble-topped shaving sink, and the mists of Avalon swirling around you as you sleep. Did we mention the hand-made sword hanging on the wall?

  • Queen-sized bed with down comforter and pillow top mattress
  • A period shaving sink in the room
  • Shared bath with the Jules Verne Room or the Lotus Room
  • Can be used en suite with the Jules Verne Room or the Lotus Room
JULES VERNE

The Jules Verne Room

Journey to the center of your imagination… With a balcony, a brass telescope, and a view for days, The Jules Verne Room is an homage to the Victorian traveler, with just a flutter of Steampunk. Grand antiques, two brass beds, some wildly ridiculous lighting fixtures, and its own Victorian marble-topped shaving closet. This is a grand room to plan your adventure around the world or into your psyche. It’s also great for families with kids, working beautifully as a suite with the Camelot Room. (It’s also the most sought-after location of every gaming teen we’ve met…)

  • Two double-sized beds with down comforters and pillow top mattresses
  • A period shaving sink in the room
  • Shared bath with the Camelot Room
KLIMT

The Klimt Room

Your artist’s garret… The perfect place to find your creativity, The Klimt Room is red-walled and embraced by Gustav Klimt tapestries – The Kiss, The Tree of Life, and more. With Art Deco touches, a marble-topped Victorian shaving closet, and come spring, a robin’s nest on the fire escape outside the window. This is a room to dream in rich golds of wild, sad love.

  • Queen-sized bed with down comforter and pillow top mattress
  • A period shaving sink in the room
  • Shared bath down the hall
WILLIAM MORRIS

The William Morris Room

The art and craft of sleep… William Morris led the charge of the Arts and Crafts movement in England, gathering with craftsmen and fellow Pre-Raphaelite artists to remember and poetically re-imagine life before the mechanization of the industrial revolution.  This hand-crafted ethos so echoes in this 1880’s house that so looks to the future. The William Morris Room is a forest room, all dressed in green and  restful, inviting you to slow down and craft your life.

  • Queen-sized bed with down comforter and pillow top mattress
  • Shared bath with the Four Seasons Room
  • The best reading chair ever
FOUR SEASONS

The Four Seasons Room

A grand room with a grand view… In what we believe was once Max Fleischmann’s sitting room. We can imagine him sitting, gazing out the windows, and thinking important thoughts about changing how business could run in the United States, or, equally important, playing chess with one of his children. Superb woodwork, arched bay windows that invite you to stargaze from bed, glorious views, a fireplace, a table and chairs perfect for writing, and Mücha’s Four Season beauties gracing the walls. This is sleeping in the Gilded Age.

  • Fireplace with remote controlled electric fire
  • Shared bath with the William Morris Room
