SUMMARY:Call Me Love 2025: Currencies
DESCRIPTION:Call Me Love: Currencies\nThursday April 3 – Saturday April 5\, 2025\nFacilitated by Leigh Melander\, Ph.D.\nSpillian Co-Founder\nA private workshop for Regenerative Nexus and 7Group co-conspirators.\nCall Me Love began three years ago as a gathering to explore how we might re-imagine a non-binary way of understanding gender\, power\, and the planet. Click here for a short article that catches some of our starting points for that conversation that Leigh wrote for the Joseph Campbell Foundation. Its title came from a clip from Sir Ian McKellen\, talking on a podcast about what opens into possibility when we call each other ‘love’ in casual conversation\, when love becomes our chosen currency. You can watch that here. \nFrom there\, in our second year\, we dove into challenging many of the stories we carry about power in the United States: what happens when we begin to understand the infinite connections between beings and places as currencies that flow and spread and empower? \nThis year\, in a moment of profound shattering\, we are reaching out to some of the people we each know who do deep work in the world with curiosity and generosity\, in the hopes that we can perhaps find ways to flow and spread and empower one another in our imaginings and actions. \nThese gatherings are a form of improv\, an invitation into not-knowing\, reveling in being on the edges of our knowledge and understanding as we explore what might come beyond them. As John\, Max\, and Leigh were talking about how we might frame this conversation\, John shared a story of Miles Davis creating Kind of Blue with a set of chord charts and thoughts about modalities and an invitation to his co-creators to come and make jazz from that loosely held place. While we were quick to agree that none of us are Miles Davis\, we loved this as a way to begin to describe what we’re reaching for together. \nSome of the modalities we’ll be starting from include ideas on edges | agency & authority | belonging | openings.  \nWe would love for you to join us\, and bring your jazz to the party! \nRegister Here\n\n•••Schedule\nThursday\, April 3 \n\n3 PM: Room Check-In | Hang Out By Fire\n5 PM: Casual Dinner\, Cocktails\, and Greetings\n6 PM: Evening Opening Session\n8 PM: Free Fireside Time Until You’re Tired\n\nFriday\, April 4 \n\n9 AM: Breakfast\n10 AM – 1 PM: Morning Session\n1 PM: Lunch\n1 PM – 5: PM Afternoon Session\n5 PM: Cocktails or By-Yourself Time\n6 PM: Dinner\n7 PM: TBD – Evening Session or Free Fireside Time\n\nSaturday\, April 5 \n\n9 AM: Breakfast\n10-11 AM: Final Session\n11 AM: Check Out\n\n\n•••Lodging\nSpillian has eight bedrooms and nine permanent beds\, plus two rollaways that can be tucked into a couple of the rooms if folks would like to share lodging but not a bed and don’t have a back that will complain too loudly. The Jules Verne Room has two double beds\, and the rollaways can fit into any rooms except The Secret Garden Room and the Camelot Room. \nIf you are sharing a room with someone\, please note the name of the person you’re sharing with on the registration form. \nClick here for more information on the rooms! \n\n•••Pricing\nWe know that in an upside-down capitalistic society\, those who do good in the world are often doing so without endless dollars. \nIn the spirit of the currencies of shared knowledge\, creativity\, and community\, one of the ways that we’d like to honor everyone who joins us is by sharing a bit of money currency. 7Group\, John Boecker\, and Spillian would all like to share some money flow such that we can offset costs for everyone. (7Group has offered to cover the cost of Leigh’s facilitation and Spillian has put that into the kitty\, and John has offered an additional sum to help bring it to a number that we hope can make it accessible for everyone.) \nAs such\, we are delighted to be able to offer a sliding scale for the weekend\, which includes lodging and really good food from our chef\, Christian.\n \nYou can enter what level of currency feels right for you in the following range: \nSupported: $250/person\nFull weekend\, including all programming\, meals\, lodging\, and tax.\nSingle or double room occupancy. \nPartial Support: $350-$550/person (your call!)\nFull weekend\, including all programming\, meals\, lodging\, and tax.\nSingle or double room occupancy. \nFull Freight Single $900/person\nFull weekend\, including all programming\, meals\, lodging\, and tax.\nSingle room occupancy. \nFull Freight Double $1350/couple\nFull weekend\, including all programming\, meals\, lodging\, and tax.\nDouble room occupancy. \nWe are honored to have you join us\, at whatever number in there works for you. \nPlease Note: This event is by invitation only.  \nRegister Here\n\nAbout Leigh Melander\, Ph.D.\nLeigh has an eclectic background in the arts as well as consulting in strategic planning\, community outreach & marketing\, and event planning for over 20 years. She has performed\, and taught and facilitated explorations of imagination and creativity internationally\, working with individuals and groups to help them find their way to bringing their wild ideas to life. She spent 13 years working in asset-based community building in communities across California\, and with students\, faculty and a wide range of artists and activists at the University of California Santa Barbara’s MultiCultural Center. \nHer undergraduate degree is in performance\, literature\, and history from Penn State\, and she studied writing by invitation with Nobel Poet Laureate Derek Walcott at Boston University. \nShe has a doctorate in cultural mythology and psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and wrote her dissertation on frivolity as an entry into imagination. She has has appeared at various conferences and on media outlets\, including the History Channel\, as a mythology expert\, and has published articles in Spring Journal\, The Routledge International Handbook of Jungian Film Studies\, The Mythology CD-ROM. She hosted Myth America®\, a weekly radio show about  how myth shapes our sense of identity on an NPR affiliate for three years and is transitioning to a podcast\, and served as the Vice President of the Joseph Campbell Foundation and the editor of their MythBlast series for four years. She is the author of Psyche’s Choice: The Frivolous Revolution\, and the upcoming Just This Side of Crazy: Dream Your Wild Idea to Life. \nEleven years ago\, she and her husband opened Spillian\, located on the National Register of Historic Places former estate of the Fleischmanns Yeast family in the Catskills as a place to revel in imagination and possibility. \n\nJoin our Mythic Catskills Adventures email list and be the first to know about upcoming events:

There will be dancing. There will be sparks and sparkles of romance. Wit and wonder. Along with really bad puns. And not a cherub in sight. \nReserve Now!\n  \n\nThe Bohemian Valentine’s Ball\nCocktails 5 PM\nStrut your best bohemian weirdness\, savor a gougère (a gruyere puffed pastry) and have a drink or two to start your evening. We can’t promise cancan (we’re not actually sure that we couldcould!)\, but we will be on hand to teach basic fox trot and tango steps so you are fully prepared to sweep your Valentine off their feet in the most elegant of ways on the dance floor. Both are actually surprisingly easy to master and you will feel the élan just dripping off you. \nDancing and Dining 7-10 PM\nThis year\, we’re going to offer an array of Bohemian Paris inspired flavors throughout the evening passed and at stations throughout the mansion. They will\, of course\, include our Moulin de la Galette buckwheat galettes (a Montmartre tradition for hundreds of years)\, made as you watch with your choice of of carnivore or vegivore fillings; along with savories and sweets that will amuse your tastebuds throughout the evening. This way\, a new taste is awaiting you and your love each time you decide to take a moment to muse upon the exquisite nature of your dancing and the delights of the Joe Plowman Trio playing hits of Paris in the 30’s (assuming they can make it through the storm from Philly and New York! SUMMARY:Wild Ideas Creative Retreat | February 7-9
DESCRIPTION:Wild Ideas Creative Retreat\nFriday\, February 7 – Sunday\, February 9\, 2025\nYour chance to escape to the magic creative energy of Spillian for a weekend to work on that wild idea that has been burning a hole in your brain. Join us for a gentle convivium and chance for solo time to imagine deeply. \nGrab a corner\, a table in the tavern\, a seat by the fire\, or a chair in your room and have lots of time and space to work and explore and bring your wild idea to life. Maybe it’s a book\, or a set of poems\, drawing\, or a digital design…quiet projects that you can go deep into as everyone here goes deep into theirs. \nWe’ll provide sustenance throughout the weekend – a light dinner on Friday; breakfast\, lunch and a bigger feast on Saturday; and breakfast on Sunday. And of course coffee\, tea (including our own magical herbal offering\, Cat’s Love Tea\, with spearmint\, rose petals\, elderberries\, sumac\, and more)\, and adult libations will be at the ready. \nAnd we’ll have Spillian Permission Slips for you. You can grant yourself permission to hole up in your room and come down from your garret and grasp your vittles in your ink-stained hands and disappear back upstairs; or claim a corner in the library; or even just nap your way into dreaming your wild idea forward. We’ll gather for meals (unless you want to hide)\, with a special invitation on Saturday night to share the feasting table with your fellow dreamers and share a bit of what’s inspiring or stymieing you. Spillian co-founder Leigh Melander will lead the charge on sharing our wild ideas at dinner. \nThis is free-flow\, a reveling in ideas and the quiet that births them retreat. You’re welcome to come and stay for the weekend\, or come to take advantage of Spillian’s space and sustenance and lay your creative head elsewhere. \nWe are excited to finally be offering weekends like this! We’ve been hearing desire for this from many of our extended Spillian family over the years\, so we’re offering both this one in February as well as one in January. Spillian has been such a well-spring of creativity for people since the Fleischmanns created their retreat space\, and we are looking forward to sharing it with you in this special way. \n  \nReserve Now!\n  \n\nAbout Leigh Melander\, Ph.D.\nLeigh has an eclectic background in the arts as well as consulting in strategic planning\, outreach and marketing\, and event planning for over 20 years. SUMMARY:The Hallowed Haggis: A Robert Burns Celebration | January 25
DESCRIPTION:The Hallowed Haggis:\nA Robert Burns Celebration\nSaturday\, January 25\, 2025\nWe all know January–the time of the year when holiday delights have faded into the snow and the dark cold nights of winter threaten despair… We have an antidote: The Hallowed Haggis: A Robert Burns Celebration. \nCome push against the darkness\, and join us for our fifth annual seriously silly celebration of the words and song of the Ploughman Poet\, Robert Burns. DESCRIPTION:Twelfth Night: A Feast of Fools\nThe Lord of Misrule\, Shakespeare\, and Merriment to End the Holiday Season\nSaturday\, January 4\, 2025\nJoin us for a last blast of celebration in honor of the end of the twelve days of Christmas! \nLong before New Year’s Eve became a thing\, Twelfth Night once echoed with a splendid upside-down revelry that challenged any strait-laced ideas of power\, identity\, and what constitutes good behavior. We will join together and co-create an evening worth of such illustrious (or\, more accurately\, irreverent) lineage. We will laugh January into submission in a Renaissance-inspired romp. And yes\, you can most absolutely come dressed as a fool! \n\nJoin us for the day/evening for Afternoon Revels. A Reveling Feast & Pig Roast & Festivities or…\nStay the night: The Full Revel – Afternoon Revels\, Cocktails\, Feast & Festivities and an Overnight Stay\n\nAdvance Reservations Required. \nReserve Now!\n\n\nThe Schedule\n1 to 4 PM: Afternoon Revels. No memorizing of lines and anything goes…\nThe Bar will of course be open to invite your inner jester to come and play. And there will be Spillian snacks\, so the jester doesn’t get completely out of line. Yet.\n\n5 PM: Cocktails and the Crowning of the Lord of Misrule\nIn addition to our regular bar offerings\, we’ll be evoking Renaissance renaissance flavors of the season:  hippocras\, a spiced wine flavored like cinnamon and ginger; a house-infused version of mulberry gin; and  aqua vitae – the water of life – brandy. And we’ll present the King’s Cake\, complete with a bean inside to crown our Lord of Misrule for the evening. \n6 PM: A Twelfth Night Feast from Chef Christian Van Etten\nChef Christian has gone full out with flavors for carnivores and vegivores…and he’s roasting a pig! \nSalad Course\nRed Currant\, Pear\, Arugula\, Dilled-Almond Salad with Local Maple Vinaigrette \nFor the Carnivores\nA Pig Roast\, Bedecked with Bay and Rosemary\nRainbow Carrots and Roasted Fall Root Vegetables\nButternut Sage Risotto alla Milanese \nFor the Vegivores\nOur Famous Mushroom Wellington with Plum Reduction\nRainbow Carrots and Roasted Fall Root Vegetables\nButternut Sage Risotto alla Milanese \nDessert\nHouse Made Pumpkin Tiramisu \n  \n7 PM: Twelfth Night\, by William Shakespeare & the Spillian Revelers Shakespeare Company\nWe will speak the speeches trippingly as we split the ears of the groundlings\, and our sides with laughing at our foolish selves as we bring the adventures of Viola\, Sebastian\, Sir Toby Belch\, and all of their loves and tormenters to life. Can you recall the feeling?  That threat in your surroundings that predates your most distant ancestors? Where every creek and crack in the natural world that cradles you gradually and begins to grow more ominous? That unutterable sense that mother nature doesn’t care about you – and maybe you are just her next meal!  \nJoin celebrated British actress and voiceover artist Victoria Finney for her candle-lit atmospheric reading of Algernon Blackwood’s 1909 supernatural psychedelic horror story\, The Willows. A sensory immersion\, this storytelling performance saturates audience members in an eerie odyssey to otherworldly realms guided only by the simple elements of sound\, light and spoken word. The piece is adapted and directed by Alex Harvey.  \nBorn in 1869\, Algernon Blackwood was the first pioneer of Supernatural Fiction and is renowned for his masterful atmospheric settings in his paranormal tales\, which submerge readers in the experience of the story itself. A member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn—a secret society devoted to the study of the occult and esoteric knowledge—Blackwood had an outsized and often underappreciated influence on the horror genre. The Willows creates a narrative bridge that connects gothic horror of the 19th century to psychological horror of the modern age. Blackwood’s ability to evoke dread from natural settings and his use of the unseen to generate fear lays the groundwork for modern horror’s exploration of existential dread. Blackwood was a major influence on H.P. Lovecraft\, who praised The Willows as “the finest supernatural tale in English literature.” \nSet on a flooding sandbar in the Danube as it crosses from Austria into Hungary\, the narrative of The Willows lures us into the disorienting inward journey of two campers on a summer canoe trip. Amidst the ceaseless and whispering dance of miles and miles of willow bushes along the river’s ancient banks\, these two adventurers are ensnared by forces that they dont understand. They are pulled\, as if by the hands of unseen specters\, into a realm where reality warps and the fabric of the known world frays into the inexplicable. Further and further they fall into the grasp of wild nature’s whim and closer to the edge of sanity. In its crescendo\, this odyssey leaves a haunting reminder of the fragile barrier that separates our mundane existence from the unfathomable mysteries that lie beyond. \n\nAbout Victoria Finney\nVictoria Finney performed all over the UK & Europe for many years with theatre companies including The English Shakespeare Company and Shared Experience\, appearing in several TV drama series and as a storyteller and Radio Rep actor for the BBC. SUMMARY:Carsie Blanton in Concert: Creative Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Carsie Blanton in Concert: Creative Revolution         \nSaturday\, July 13 • 5 to 9 PM\nAn Intimate Summer House Concert Featuring\nAcclaimed Singer/Songwriter & Activist Carsie Blanton\nCelebrating the Birth of The Kirkside Virtual Food Hub\n\nTickets: $55 for Local Summer Picnic and Concert\nCash Bar Featuring Local Beers & Spirits\nHappily accepting donations for the Kirkside Virtual Food Hub\n\nOnly A Handful of Tickets Left! Tix on sale until 3 PM!  \nBUY TIX NOW!\n  \n\nA Reveling Rebellion\nThe word Spillian means to revel in Old English. It comes from the same root word as rebel and frivol…delightful reveling rebellion is in our blood. This summer\, in the mountains that have birthed protest music that has changed the world\, we’re offering a unique chance to rebel with piped piper extraordinaire\, Carsie Blanton. \nAnd in that spirit\, we’d like to celebrate a small but important bit of rebellion fighting against the corporatization and globalization of the food industry: an emerging project to bring our Catskills farmers\, restaurateurs\, and hoteliers so we can all thrive. The Kirkside Virtual Food Hub will break the craziness of food going from Delaware County to NYC just to come back for sale\, and build truly fresh\, truly local food\, its story and connections to our residents and visitors so we all can thrive. The Kirkside Virtual Food Hub is a brainchild of The MARK Project and its flagship effort to invent new ways to bring community and visitor resources together in learning and play at the Inn at Kirkside. \n5 PM: Join us for a summery picnic featuring flavors from our local farms by our Chef Christian Van Etten\, featured local beers and cocktails\, and exciting news about the Virtual Food Hub. \n7 PM: Carsie and her fab cat bass player will join us for a 7 PM show that will have you roaring to change the world. \nThe Menu! \n\nGreek Lemon Potato Salad with Mint (V | VG | GF)\nSmoked Pulled Pork Sliders on House-Made Parker House Rolls\, Red Onion Jam\, Kimchee & Arugula\nZucchini Fritters with Smoked Trout\, Corn Crema\, Pickled Scallions (GF)\nZucchini Fritters with Smoked Carrot\, Corn Crema\, Pickled Scallions (V | VG | GF)\nSweet Sesame & Lime Cabbage Salad (V | VG | GF)\nElote Charred Corn Salad (V | GF)\nChef Christian’s Bruschetta Salad with House-Made Baguettes (V | VG | GF without baguettes!)\nBlackberry Corn Cobbler (V )\n\nFeatured Cocktail: The Trout Tale \nLocal vodka\, mint from our garden\, seltzer\, and a splash of local maple syrup. \n  \n\nThe Music: Carsie Blanton\n \nCarsie Blanton is a songwriter with hooks\, chutzpah\, and revolutionary optimism. “It is possible to face the world as it is – rapidly heating\, ruled by grifters\, ravaged by profitable wars – and still have hope\,” she says of her newest release\, After the Revolution\, produced by Grammy-winner Tyler Chester. “Not the narrow\, grasping hope you might hang on an election or a billionaire\, but a patient\, zoomed-out hope.” Inspired by artist-activists including Nina Simone and Woody Guthrie\, her catalog careens through American popular song from folk and swing to pop-punk protest anthems. \nWith her unique mix of humor\, craft\, and social critique\, Blanton has amassed a small menagerie of viral hits (Rich People\, Shit List\, Fishin’ With You) and a dedicated fan base. In addition to fifteen years on the road with her band\, Blanton volunteers as a political organizer\, and was recently published in The Nation.  \n“Beautiful\, militant anthems.” – Ken Tucker\, NPR’s Fresh Air \n“Carsie Blanton is fighting fascism with big hooks and an even bigger heart.” – American Songwriter \n\nThe Kirkside Virtual Food Hub\nA next-gen vision for how our local farmers and our local restaurants can strengthen one another and the region. For over 150 years\, the Catskills’ economy has been largely driven by independent small farmers and hoteliers. In this era of corporate food\, it has become very (even at times absurdly) difficult for restaurants to get food from local farms onto their tables\, despite best intentions and efforts. The Kirkside Virtual Food Hub will be a solution to this: bringing these communities together with a powerful set of digital and transportation tools that will build connections and resources\, including: \n\nDevelop forecasting tools for farmers to anticipate restaurant needs and plant to order rather than on spec\, removing a layer of farming risk and building their resilience.\nStrengthen restaurateurs’ abilities to elegantly reflect the seasons and terroir of the Catskills in their menus and better understand and reflect the stories of this place and why local food matters.\nCut the ‘grow in the Catskills\, ship to NYC and ship back to the Catskills’ current distribution channels and provide direct transport of local foods to local tables in the moment at peak freshness.\n\nThis is an initiative of the Inn at Kirkside\, a flagship effort by the regional community foundation\, the MARK Project\, transforming the historic Kirkside Estate into a hotel/restaurant with an integrated educational program that provides experiential learning to aspiring professionals in the hospitality and tourism industries\, encourages and cultivates entrepreneurship\, serves as a model of green technologies\, and supports the local food producing system. You can check out the Virtual Food Hub visioning plan here! \nSpillian is proud to be partnering with the Virtual Food Hub; we believe that it’s a seriously cool vision to strengthen the area\, both economically and culturally\, and build environmental and social equity for our local community. \nBUY TIX NOW!

SUMMARY:Breathing Fire: A Wild Power Workshop for Women | February 2-4
DESCRIPTION:Breathing Fire: A Wild Power Workshop for Women\nFebruary 2-4\, 2024\nFacilitated by Leigh Melander\, Ph.D.\, Spillian Co-Founder\nAre you burning to change your life and the world? \nJoin us for a weekend celebrating the fire we hold in us\, the dragon fire of the Catskills mountains\, and the embers of fire festivals traditionally celebrated in winter and early spring to imagine the power and life of the coming year. \nIn most cultures\, women have been traditionally defined by three roles: maiden\, mother\, and crone. Each is a powerful metaphor\, each has value\, but they all live within society’s expectations.  They are often as much about how the world sees women as they are how we see ourselves. \nThere is another metaphor\, one that acknowledges women’s power\, our wildness\, and how we often stand outside the constructs of society. \nAnd that is dragon. Filled with fire\, with possibility\, with fortune\, and with danger\, dragons refuse to be bound by rules. \nHow do we see and embrace this power in ourselves\, even when we aren’t sure we can? How can we learn to ride this fire enough so it doesn’t burn ourselves or the people around us? And at the same time\, how can we understand that its very nature resists being tamed? How can we navigate the risks of unleashing this fire in a world that is often terrified by it? \nExplore your own fair fierceness through story\, movement\, and imagination. \nReserve Now!\n\nWhat to Bring\nWe invite you to bring an idea to work\, an activity to dive into\, a piece of your own dragon self to share. What brings you fire? And what might ignite your fellow dragons? We will gather and co-create the flames together\, celebrating our power together. If you’re not sure what you might bring with you\, please feel free to reach out. And if you’re curling around the edges at the idea\, never fear – we will have lots to share. \n\nAbout Leigh Melander\, Ph.D.\nLeigh has an eclectic background in the arts as well as consulting in strategic planning\, outreach and marketing\, and event planning for over 20 years. She has performed\, and taught and facilitated explorations of imagination and creativity internationally\, working with individuals and groups to help them find their way to bringing their wild ideas to life. Her first book in the Frivolous Revolution series\, Psyche’s Choice\, has been released as on Amazon\, with additional books coming in 2024. \nHer undergraduate degree is in performance\, literature\, and history from Penn State\, and she studied writing by invitation with Nobel Poet Laureate Derek Walcott at Boston University. She has a doctorate in cultural mythology and psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and wrote her dissertation on frivolity as an entry into imagination. \n\nPricing\nWorkshop Registration Fee:\n$295 until January 25\, 2024.\n$395 after that date.\nSpillian is proud to underwrite some of the costs on this workshop\, hoping to keep experience accessible to as many women as possible.  \n• Includes all chef-made meals\, sessions\, and materials. SUMMARY:The Hallowed Haggis: A Robert Burns Celebration | January 20
DESCRIPTION:The Hallowed Haggis:\nA Robert Burns Celebration\nJanuary 20\, 2024\nWe all know January–the time of the year when holiday delights have faded into the snow and the dark cold nights of winter threaten despair… We have an antidote: The Hallowed Haggis: A Robert Burns Celebration. \nCome push against the darkness\, and join us for a seriously silly celebration of the words and song of the Ploughman Poet\, Robert Burns. Indulge your whimsy\, and join in the revelry as we enjoy the smoky taste of great whiskey\, the play of candlelight against silver\, the wail of the bagpipes\, the Spillian Haggis Games\, and a great feast of the Hallowed Haggis… Hilarity will ensue. \nWhat the hell is Haggis\, you ask?  Its liver\, tongue and other unmentionable bits together with Scottish oats\, onions\, stock and herbs all cooked together into “the great chieftain o’ the pudding race.” Put away your mocking thoughts\, and know that this is one delicious bit of pie.  And\, in deference to those who think it is truly terrifying\, we will offer haggis to taste alongside Chef Christian’s superb takes on much more accessible Scots carnivorous and vegetarian fare…\n \nOur co-founder Leigh Melander and our great friends and colleagues\, theatre artist Robert Smythe and textile artist Susan Smythe\, will be co-directing the delights of the weekend and spurring you on to great Haggis heights. SUMMARY:Breathing Fire: A Wild Power Workshop for Women
DESCRIPTION:Breathing Fire: A Wild Power Workshop for Women\nFebruary 3-5\, 2023\nFacilitated by Leigh Melander\, Ph.D.\, Spillian Co-Founder\nAre you burning to change your life and the world? \nReserve Now! \n\nMythic Catskills Adventures\nSpillian’s Mythic Catskills Adventures are an intersection with the essence of the Catskills: the forests\, the mountains\, the people\, the deep stories that make this place so compelling. \nEach gathering celebrates a facet of this gem-like place: its food\, its fish and streams\, its ringing summer\, its snow-spangled winters\, its flowing creative life force. \nCome for a weekend of grand adventure. Feast. Explore. Hear the great stories and share your own.  Revel in the mythic possibility of the Catskills and find where it sings in your life – and then bring that song back home with you. \n\nAbout Leigh Melander\, Ph.D.\nLeigh has an eclectic background in the arts as well as consulting in strategic planning\, outreach and marketing\, and event planning for over 20 years. It was a revelry attended by more than 500 guests. Since then our magical meadow has hosted weddings\, workshops\, and gatherings. We’ve added a pretty spiff rustic pavilion for the bar\, made from trees on the property\, the bonfire pit\, and lighting to shape the woods around us. \n\nThe Music\nLara Hope & The Arktones\n \nFresh off from touring with the Brian Setzer Orchestra! Winner of the 2017 Ameripolitan Music Award for Best Female Rockabilly Artist\, and named the “Best Up-And-Coming Band” by Hudson Valley Magazine\, Lara Hope and the Ark-Tones are New York’s premier “Roots Rock n’ Roll & Rockabilly Twang” outfit. They released their 2nd full length album\, “Love You to Life”\, in August 2017\, and have been hitting the road hard\, spreading the gospel of American music wherever they go. Describing their sound\, Hope explained to Rockabilly Online “I would say we are a new take on an old sound. It’s been described as ‘pan-americana’ which means we use many areas of early rock and roots music as a creative launchpad. Where it goes from there is anyone’s guess\, because while we appreciate old music\, we don’t want to write songs that have already been written.” \nThey’ve built a great network of venues in the US by touring heavily\, and like many American bands\, they have gained supportive fans and excellent press overseas as well. They recently completed their first European tour\, successfully spending the month of April 2018 in Belgium and Holland. Hope was featured on the cover of UK Rock n’ Roll magazine in March 2015\, and New York’s Ulster Magazine in March 2016. The band has had the privilidge of playing with many of their musical heroes including Joan Jett\, Tiger Army\, Gary US Bonds\, Dale Watson\, Big Sandy\, Wayne Hancock\, and America\, among others\, and has performed at at a variety of national festivals including Viva Las Vegas\, Ink n Iron\, and The Nashville Boogie. They spent the summer of 2018 on tour in support of The Reverend Horton Heat and The Blasters\, and Nov/Dec on the road Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Rocks Tour. \nMore on Lara Hope & The Arktones… \n  \nThe Dylan Doyle Band\n \n\nBack for his fourth year headlining SpillianFest! Southern born\, Northern raised \, Dylan Doyle has been steeped in everything from Bob Dylan\, Wes Montgomery\, and Bill Withers to John Prine\, Jimi Hendrix\, and The Band.  From this comes a unique musical interpretation that lies somewhere within the delta of Roots\, Rock\, and Jazz\, giving him a style that defies classification. \nTouring nationally since age 15\, Dylan became a seasoned professional at a very young age.  He has played with such notable musicians Rob Stoner (Bob Dylan\, Don Mclean)\, John Platania (Van Morrison\, Natalie Merchant)\, Ben Cauley (Otis Redding) and Bill Payne (Little Feat).  Stoner called Dylan one of the most prodigious players he has known with abundant natural talent.  John Platania has referred to Dylan as “The Future.”  Ben Cauley\, after playing with Dylan in Memphis said\, “Dylan Doyle sounds like a young Jimi Hendrix.”  In the words of Bill Payne upon sharing the stage\, “Music is a conversation.  Dylan spoke beautifully and was listening to the musicians around him.  His play was imaginative and original.” Attesting to Dylan’s versatility\, Dylan has played the King Biscuit Blues Festival three consecutive years as well headlining the Grateful Garcia Gathering\, the largest Grateful Dead festival in the Midwest. Dylan consistently packs houses around Europe and the United States. \n\nMore on the Dylan Doyle Band…\n

John has performed solo for countless funerals and weddings\, but is also always ready to get the party started with jigs\, reels and rock & roll. In John’s hands\, the bagpipes will get your feet dancing as well as your tears flowing. An ancient Scottish proverb speaks to the raw power of the ancient instrument – “12 Highlanders and a bagpipe make a rebellion”.
