SUMMARY:The Hallowed Haggis: A Robert Burns Celebration | January 20
DESCRIPTION:The Hallowed Haggis:\nA Robert Burns Celebration\nJanuary 20\, 2024\nWe all know January–the time of the year when holiday delights have faded into the snow and the dark cold nights of winter threaten despair… We have an antidote: The Hallowed Haggis: A Robert Burns Celebration. \nCome push against the darkness\, and join us for a seriously silly celebration of the words and song of the Ploughman Poet\, Robert Burns. Indulge your whimsy\, and join in the revelry as we enjoy the smoky taste of great whiskey\, the play of candlelight against silver\, the wail of the bagpipes\, the Spillian Haggis Games\, and a great feast of the Hallowed Haggis… Hilarity will ensue. \nWhat the hell is Haggis\, you ask?  Its liver\, tongue and other unmentionable bits together with Scottish oats\, onions\, stock and herbs all cooked together into “the great chieftain o’ the pudding race.” Put away your mocking thoughts\, and know that this is one delicious bit of pie.  And\, in deference to those who think it is truly terrifying\, we will offer haggis to taste alongside Chef Christian’s superb takes on much more accessible Scots carnivorous and vegetarian fare…\n \nOur co-founder Leigh Melander and our great friends and colleagues\, theatre artist Robert Smythe and textile artist Susan Smythe\, will be co-directing the delights of the weekend and spurring you on to great Haggis heights. And John “Johnny Piper” McGovern will be evoking the highlands and bringing us into line with his bagpipes throughout the evening. \nJoin us as we push back winter’s dark cloak with games\, verse\, drinks and superb food\, all invoking – and evoking – your inner Highlander. \nThree ways to play: \n\nCome for the evening: Saturday Robert Burns Supper & Festivities\nCome for the day: Saturday Haggis Games\, Robert Burns Supper & Festivities \nStay the night: The Full Haggis – The Haggis Games\, Supper\, Festivities and Overnight Stay\n\n\nPlease join us! It was a revelry attended by more than 500 guests. Since then our magical meadow has hosted weddings\, workshops\, and gatherings. We’ve added a pretty spiff rustic pavilion for the bar\, made from trees on the property\, the bonfire pit\, and lighting to shape the woods around us. \n\nThe Music\nJohnny Piper\n\nEclectic and powerful\, John “Johnny Piper” McGovern is not only the founder of internationally acclaimed Bagpipe Punk Rock band\, Alternative Ulster\, he’s also the bagpiper for the Ulster County\, NY Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard. THE authority when it comes to Celtic Punk\, Paddy Rock Podcasts\, has declared Alternative Ulster as one of the Top 5 Bands for the Next Decade (2020-2030). John has performed solo for countless funerals and weddings\, but is also always ready to get the party started with jigs\, reels and rock & roll. In John’s hands\, the bagpipes will get your feet dancing as well as your tears flowing. An ancient Scottish proverb speaks to the raw power of the ancient instrument – “12 Highlanders and a bagpipe make a rebellion”. No other musical implement inspires such courage in battle\, joy in celebration or anguish in mourning. Johnny’s mighty drones shall rock your bones! \n  \nBrasskill\nBrasskill is the Hudson Valley’s party brass band. Based in Hudson\, NY and founded in the Spring of 2018\, Brasskill brings funky decibels to parties\, festivals\, parades and other merry gatherings in the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas. Brasskill’s music ranges from New Orleans second line tunes to punk and pop covers as well as Latin grooves — and is guaranteed to get your party out on the dance floor.\nMore on Brasskill… \n\nThe Dylan Doyle Band\n \n\nBack for his fifth year headlining SpillianFest! Southern born\, Northern raised \, Dylan Doyle has been steeped in everything from Bob Dylan\, Wes Montgomery\, and Bill Withers to John Prine\, Jimi Hendrix\, and The Band.  From this comes a unique musical interpretation that lies somewhere within the delta of Roots\, Rock\, and Jazz\, giving him a style that defies classification. \nTouring nationally since age 15\, Dylan became a seasoned professional at a very young age.  He has played with such notable musicians Rob Stoner (Bob Dylan\, Don Mclean)\, John Platania (Van Morrison\, Natalie Merchant)\, Ben Cauley (Otis Redding) and Bill Payne (Little Feat).  Stoner called Dylan one of the most prodigious players he has known with abundant natural talent.  John Platania has referred to Dylan as “The Future.”  Ben Cauley\, after playing with Dylan in Memphis said\, “Dylan Doyle sounds like a young Jimi Hendrix.”  In the words of Bill Payne upon sharing the stage\, “Music is a conversation.  Dylan spoke beautifully and was listening to the musicians around him.  His play was imaginative and original.” Attesting to Dylan’s versatility\, Dylan has played the King Biscuit Blues Festival three consecutive years as well headlining the Grateful Garcia Gathering\, the largest Grateful Dead festival in the Midwest. Dylan consistently packs houses around Europe and the United States. \n\nMore on the Dylan Doyle Band…\n

We’ve added a pretty spiff rustic pavilion for the bar\, made from trees on the property\, the bonfire pit\, and lighting to shape the woods around us. \n\nThe Music\nLara Hope & The Arktones\n \nFresh off from touring with the Brian Setzer Orchestra! Winner of the 2017 Ameripolitan Music Award for Best Female Rockabilly Artist\, and named the “Best Up-And-Coming Band” by Hudson Valley Magazine\, Lara Hope and the Ark-Tones are New York’s premier “Roots Rock n’ Roll & Rockabilly Twang” outfit. They released their 2nd full length album\, “Love You to Life”\, in August 2017\, and have been hitting the road hard\, spreading the gospel of American music wherever they go. Describing their sound\, Hope explained to Rockabilly Online “I would say we are a new take on an old sound. It’s been described as ‘pan-americana’ which means we use many areas of early rock and roots music as a creative launchpad. Where it goes from there is anyone’s guess\, because while we appreciate old music\, we don’t want to write songs that have already been written.” \nThey’ve built a great network of venues in the US by touring heavily\, and like many American bands\, they have gained supportive fans and excellent press overseas as well. They recently completed their first European tour\, successfully spending the month of April 2018 in Belgium and Holland. Hope was featured on the cover of UK Rock n’ Roll magazine in March 2015\, and New York’s Ulster Magazine in March 2016. The band has had the privilidge of playing with many of their musical heroes including Joan Jett\, Tiger Army\, Gary US Bonds\, Dale Watson\, Big Sandy\, Wayne Hancock\, and America\, among others\, and has performed at at a variety of national festivals including Viva Las Vegas\, Ink n Iron\, and The Nashville Boogie. They spent the summer of 2018 on tour in support of The Reverend Horton Heat and The Blasters\, and Nov/Dec on the road Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Rocks Tour. \nMore on Lara Hope & The Arktones… \n  \nThe Dylan Doyle Band\n \n\nBack for his fourth year headlining SpillianFest! SUMMARY:Murder on the Mountain | A Mythic Catskills Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Murder on the Mountain | A Mythic Catskills Weekend\nMarch 1-3\, 2019\nAn original murderous adventure steeped in the gin-spiked glamor of the 20’s. \nA mystery created at Spillian with characters drawn from literature and history\, inspired by the lore of 20’s icons (and gangsters!) wanders to the Catskills mountains for entertainment and\, well\, a bit of nefarious activity. \nWe’re thrilled to offer you a chance to dive into this mystery as part of our partnership with friend and  filmmaker Alex Harvey as he shapes an upcoming full length independent feature film set at Spillian with this mystery at its heart. Come and be a part of a murder…and the birth of a film! \nWhen you arrive… \nYou all have received your invitations for Jack Goodwin and Violet DeWitt’s famous – or infamous – birthday house party in their Catskills mansion. It’s going to be a party that was far more than (most of you) planned for… A mystery who-dunnit in high style. \nAs F. Scott himself said\, “Never miss a party…good for the nerves–like celery.” \nThis year\, you have been invited for the weekend up to their Catskills cottage (really a rustically luxurious estate) for an informal dinner and dancing\, with good gin flowing out of the reach and eyes of the New York police. DESCRIPTION:SpillianFest 2016\nENTRY TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE AT THE GATE\n$20.00 ADULT/$7.50 CHILD\nSpillianFest 2016. A Magical Summer Evening in the Catskills. \nThe Bite of the Blues. The Brilliance of Young Musician Recording his First Live Album. A Taste of the Bayou. Bliss.\n“Dylan Doyle is like a young\, white Jimi Hendrix.” Ben Cauley\, Sole surviving band member of the Otis Redding plane crash. \nLast August\, on a warm idyllic summer evening\, more than 300 of your neighbors and friends made their way to Fleischmanns\, up a winding driveway\, to Spillian’s mansion and meadow for more than 2 hours of acoustic and plugged in blues based artistry from 17 year old Hudson Valley native Dylan Doyle. It was the first annual SpillianFest\, a magical evening of authentic Southern BBQ and smoking hot music\, framed by the inspirational setting of Spillian and the Catskill mountain. \nThere’s history in our mountains and there’s history in Spillian’s meadow—the very same meadow that has been the scene of weddings\, reunions\, birthdays\, performances and events over more than 100 years—a place where artistry\, history and geography have been fueling inspiration for decade after decade. \nThis year\, on July 23\, we’re turning the heat up even higher for SpillianFest 2016 — a Cajun inspired feast of music and food\, as Dylan Doyle returns to claim his piece of history. What really makes this evening a one-of-a-kind\, don’t miss event is that the entire show is being recorded for Dylan’s next CD – Live at Spillian and will be broadcast live by co-sponsors WIOX Community Radio! It’s your chance to be part of the live CD— as Dylan and some very special guests (stay tuned for details!) perform blues classics and new originals in a rocking\, dancing\, cajun food fueled afternoon and evening of great music\, and the reveal of Dylan’s newest original songs. \nWe’re hitting bayou blues and rocking it out this evening\, starting with a Cajun feast and the amazing get-your-feet-dancing-it’s-a-party groove of the Zydeco Revelators! \n\nSaturday\, July 23\, 2016\n4 – 6 PM – Cajun Feasting and the Zydeco Revelators\n6 – 8 PM – Dylan Doyle Band Live Concert Recording & Live WIOX Broadcast\n7 – 9 PM – Bonfire\nHow To Order Tickets\nENTRY TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE AT THE GATE\n$20.00 ADULT/$7.50 CHILD\n\nMEAL AND DRINK TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE GATE. \n\nFULL CAJUN DINNER (MEAT OR VEGGIE): $18.00\nDRINKS (BEER\, WINE\, COCKTAIL): $5.00\nSOFT DRINKS: $1.00\n\n\nAbout Dylan Doyle\n“Dylan Doyle is a great young musician with the soul of an old bluesman.” – John Platania\, Guitarist\, Van Morrison\n \nPhoto © James Rice Photography \n\nSouthern born and Northern bred\, eighteen year old Guitar Slinger Dylan Doyle embodies the best of both old and new music worlds. Steeped in the authentic sounds of blues and Americana — with influences as broad as the Mississippi river\, from Robert Johnson to John Lee Hooker\, from Buddy Guy to Bob Dylan\, The Band\, Bill Withers and Jimi Hendrix\, Dylan’s unique musical interpretation lies somewhere in the intersection of delta Blues\, Rock with just a taste of Funk that is uniquely his own. \nTouring since age 15\, Dylan has performed at the Grateful Garcia Gathering\, at the King Biscuit Blues Festival for the last 3 years\, and\, this year\, is planning his first European tour for early 2017. In short\, Dylan has been preparing all his life to take the stage for his first live CD\, and plant his flag where legendary artists have tread before. \n“There truly must be something in the water in Upstate New York. Dylan joined the group Minstrel (Connor Kennedy\, Lee Falco\, Will Bryant\, and Brandon Moss) and me last September at The Falcon in Marlboro\, NY. He sat in on Little Feat’s “Dixie Chicken” that evening. His playing was flawless and inventive. Live performance is not about only playing a song but being aware of the conversation and flow of those you’re playing with. He spoke beautifully and was listening to what was going on around him.” — Bill Payne\, Little Feat  \n\nAbout the Zydeco Revelators\n\nZydeco Revelators deliver hot buttered Louisiana-style dance music.
